Thailand Cuts Work Permit Wait Time With New Temporary Permit From July 2026

Thailand now allows foreign professionals hired by non-BOI employers to start work as soon as it approves their work permits. From July 1, 2026, Thailand’s Department of Employment has introduced a Temporary Work Permit through its E-Work Permit system, removing the need to wait for the physical work permit card before joining work.

What’s New Under Thailand’s Work Permit Rules

Under the new process, eligible non-BOI employers who submit applications through the E-Work Permit system will receive a Temporary Work Permit immediately upon approval.

Employees can use the temporary document as legal proof of their authorisation to work in Thailand while waiting for the physical E-Work Permit booklet.
