Bannu shaken by suicide attack
The terrorists adopted suicide tactics in this attack on Sunday. According to initial reports, terrorists affiliated with Ittihad-ul-Mujahideen targeted a military base and attacked it, killing 15 Pakistani soldiers. This is considered to be the biggest terrorist attack against the government and army in Pakistan this year. After the incident, high alert was declared in the entire area and security forces have started the search operation.
What is Ittihad-ul-Mujahideen?
Ittihad-ul-Mujahideen was established on 11 April 2025. However, for a year this organization remained engaged in propaganda and strengthening the network instead of major attacks. Now after the Bannu attack, this organization has suddenly come into the center of discussion. According to reports, the main objective of this organization is to establish radical Islamic rule in Pakistan. Its ideology is considered to be largely similar to that of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
Organization formed by alliance of three terrorist groups
According to the report of BBC Monitoring, three fundamentalist organizations active in the Khyber region had together formed this new terrorist organization. These are said to include Islamic Revolution, Lashkar-e-Islam and Hafiz Gul Bahadur’s group. Interestingly, Hafiz Gul Bahadur’s organization was once viewed differently by the Pakistan government by calling it “Good Taliban”. But now a new organization associated with this network appears to be a big challenge for Pakistan.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa becomes center of activities
Most of the activities of Ittihad-ul-Mujahideen are being seen in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa area of Pakistan. This area is very close to the Afghanistan border and has long been considered sensitive for terrorist activities. It is being told that the organization is using social media and especially Telegram for publicity. Videos and messages are shared on its channels in Pashto, Urdu and English languages. A terrorist named Mahmudul Hasan is considered the spokesperson of the organization.
There is no declared leader of the organization
It is not considered easy for the security agencies to track this organization. According to reports, to avoid the army operation, the organization has not publicly exposed any big leader or commander. This is the reason why till now very little information has been revealed about the internal structure and leadership of this organization. Experts believe that this strategy can help the organization operate in a secret manner for a long time.
First publicity, now big attack
For the last one year after its formation, Ittihad-ul-Mujahideen mainly released propaganda material. Its video showed scenes like targeting of military targets and explosions. In some videos, open threats were also given to the Pakistan Army. However, till that time the organization had not taken responsibility for any major attack. The Bannu attack is considered to be its biggest and most dangerous action so far.
Pakistan accused Afghanistan
After the attack, the Pakistan government has tried to connect its links with Afghanistan. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry says that the terrorists got support from Afghanistan and this attack was carried out at its behest. However, there has been no official response from Afghanistan on these allegations yet. But there is already tension between the two countries regarding border security and terrorism.
What can increase the influence of the new organization?
Analysts believe that after the Bannu attack, the influence of Ittihad-ul-Mujahideen may increase rapidly. In recent months, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan has reduced its attacks in some areas, while the Baloch Liberation Army also does not appear to be as active as before.
