20 rural women were given training as electricians in Bilaspur R-SETI. The women learned wiring, electrical repair and safety measures. This initiative is being considered an important step towards making women self-reliant and providing new employment opportunities.

Raipur. Now women are also making their mark in the field of electrician which is considered male dominated. Electrician training program for women has been started for the first time in Rural Self Employment Training Institute (R-SETI) located in Koni, Bilaspur. 20 women from different villages participated in this training and now they are moving forward in a new direction of employment by learning technical skills.

Women associated with Bihan Yojana are becoming self-reliant

Women of Bilaspur district associated with the ‘Bihaan’ scheme operated under the National Rural Livelihood Mission have become a part of this initiative. Now women do not want to be limited to only sewing, weaving and traditional works, but are also making a strong mark in technical fields. This training has been started with the aim of making women economically stronger and giving them self-employment opportunities.

Provided training in wiring and electrical repairing

During the training, women were given technical information on wiring, switch board repair, repair of home electrical appliances, safety measures and so on. The trainers gave practical training in a very easy manner and informed the women about every aspect. Bihan Didi Abida of Ratanpur told that earlier she used to think that only men can do electrical work, but after the training her perspective completely changed.

Now women are solving household electricity problems themselves

Abida told that now she herself fixes small and big electrical problems of her house. She is also planning to increase her income through this skill in future. She said that earlier she had to depend on others in case of electricity failure, but now she can also help the people nearby.

Women’s confidence increased through training

Tigmati Dahariya of Domgaon, Masturi was already working as an electrician in a private company. He told that after this training both his technical knowledge and confidence have increased. Tigmati said that if safety rules and correct technology are followed, this work is completely safe for women also.

Women got self-employment guidance with technical knowledge

Vimla, who received the training, said that women are not behind in any field, all they need is the right opportunity and training. The women said that better arrangements for accommodation and food were made during the training. Apart from technical information, they were also given guidance regarding self-confidence, work discipline and self-employment opportunities.

Women are getting new opportunities due to the initiative of R-SETI and SBI

Several free training programs for rural women and youth are being run in R-SETI in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Rural Development and State Bank of India. Every year courses like tailoring, beauty parlor, computer and agarbatti manufacturing are conducted, but this year for the first time electrician training has been started for women. This initiative is not only providing employment opportunities to women, but is also proving to be an important step towards increasing their participation and respect in the society.
