The journey of Lucknow Super Giants finally ended in IPL 2026 and the team captained by Rishabh Pant was the first to get eliminated from the tournament. In this match played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, host Chennai Super Kings defeated Lucknow by 5 wickets in a thrilling match and strengthened their claim in the playoff race with their third consecutive win. Chennai achieved the target of 204 runs on the basis of Urvil Patel’s 13-ball half-century. In this way, CSK successfully achieved the target of more than 180 runs for the first time since 2019.
In this match played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, host CSK also took the field without MS Dhoni. This once again disappointed the fans. If this was not enough then Lucknow’s opener Josh Inglis, who was batting first, added salt to his wounds. English returned after injury and scored a half-century in just 17 balls, hitting boundaries in the powerplay. On the basis of English’s explosive innings of 85 runs in 33 balls, Lucknow had scored 112 runs in 9 overs.
But as soon as English was out, Lucknow’s innings suddenly faltered and the pace of runs also slowed down. At one time it seemed difficult for the team to even reach 200 runs. Jamie Overton and Noor Ahmed became the reason for this, who took 4 wickets in 8 overs and bowled economically. But in the end Shahbaz Ahmed played a stormy innings of 43 runs in just 25 balls and took the team to 203 runs.
Whereas for Chennai, Sanju Samson and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also started aggressively and took the team close to 50 runs by the fourth over. But the real storm came after the fall of the first wicket, when Urvil Patel entered. After taking a single on his first ball, Urvil hit 6 sixes and 1 four in the next 7 balls. Out of these, 5 sixes came on 5 consecutive balls. Soon, Urvil equaled Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record of fastest half-century by scoring a half-century in just 13 balls.
