Karnataka government has decided to give 2% reservation to sportspersons in civil services recruitments. The Cabinet has approved the ‘Karnataka Civil Services (General Recruitment) Amendment Rules, 2026’. This decision was taken after reviewing the earlier withheld order.
Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has given a big gift to the players who have performed brilliantly in sports. In the cabinet meeting held on Thursday, it was decided that 2% reservation will be given to sportspersons in the state civil services recruitments. This information was given by Minister H.K. Patil gave.
In a press conference after the cabinet meeting, Patil said that for this, the cabinet has given its approval to ‘Karnataka Civil Services (General Recruitment) Amendment Rules, 2026’.
The order was put on hold in December 2024
According to sources, the Karnataka government had earlier also issued an order to give 2% reservation to players in different recruitments. This order was issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms. But it was banned in December 2024. An official order was also issued in this regard through a special gazette.
Review again:
In that order, it was said that the government will again review the amendment made in Rule 9 of the ‘Karnataka Civil Services (General Recruitment) Rules, 1977’. Therefore, the notification giving 2% reservation to the players was banned with immediate effect. Instructions were also given to all recruitment authorities in this regard.
Now in the cabinet meeting held on Thursday, it was discussed in detail under which rules this reservation can be given. Finally, the proposal of the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms titled ‘Karnataka Civil Services (General Recruitment) Amendment Rules, 2026’ was given the green signal.
