Patna: The bugle of Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 is over and meanwhile Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Seemanchal region remains the main subject of discussion in political circles. On Monday, PM Modi will inaugurate Purnia Airport and will give the development projects worth about 40 thousand crores to Seemanchal. This step is considered not only for development, but also a part of the strategy to woo voters in the assembly elections.
Development of development or election weapon?
Politics is showing its impact on 24 assembly seats of Seemanchal. In the 2020 assembly elections, the Grand Alliance won 10 seats here, NDA 9 and AIMIM won 5 seats. However, four MLAs from AIMIM later joined the RJD, which increased the strength of the Grand Alliance to 14 seats, while the NDA had nine seats. In the Lok Sabha elections 2024, the NDA lost three seats in Seemanchal.

This package of 40 thousand crores includes several important projects like airport terminals, new railway lines, thermal power projects, roads, drinking water schemes and Makhana Board.
Politics of Seemanchal
Seemanchal is a sensitive and decisive sector in Bihar politics. The Muslim population is high here and AIMIM also has a political hold, due to which the status of the Grand Alliance remains challenging. For this reason, this visit of Prime Minister Modi is also being seen as an election strategy, where he wants to strengthen the vote bank by giving development to the voters of Seemanchal. At the same time, the opposition, especially Leader of Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav, who is recently inspecting hospitals in Purnia and communicating with women, is targeting the BJP by calling these announcements of development an election.
