Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial being built in Aishbagh, Lucknow will be ready by July 2026. This project developed by the Yogi government will include a museum, research centre, auditorium, library and a 25 feet statue of Baba Saheb.

Lucknow. Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial and Cultural Center is rapidly taking shape in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. This memorial being built under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will not be just a building but an important center dedicated to social justice, Constitution and thoughts of Baba Saheb. This project under construction in Aishbagh area of ​​Lucknow has now reached its final stage and its construction work is likely to be completed by July 2026.

A grand Dr. Ambedkar memorial is being built in Aishbagh

This memorial is being built on about 2.5 acres of land in front of Idgah in Aishbagh area of ​​Lucknow. Initially its estimated cost was fixed at Rs 45.04 crore, but later due to the addition of auditorium, finishing and external development work, its cost has increased to around Rs 81 crore to Rs 100 crore.

Land allocation and budget release for the project was done in two phases. At present the construction work is almost complete, while the work of the 500-seat modern auditorium is in the final stages. The foundation stone of this project was laid by the then President Ram Nath Kovind on 29 June 2021. Ambedkar Mahasabha and followers of Baba Saheb were demanding this memorial for a long time.

Savita Ambedkar’s wish got shape

President of Ambedkar Mahasabha Trust, Dr. Lalji Prasad Nirmal said that the inspiration for this memorial is linked to the wish of Baba Saheb’s wife Dr. Savita Ambedkar. He told that in the year 1991, Dr. Savita Ambedkar had installed the mortal remains of Dr. Ambedkar in the Ambedkar Mahasabha. During that time he had expressed his desire that a grand memorial should be built on the mortal remains of Baba Saheb, which would also include a library and museum. According to Dr. Nirmal, this demand was kept from various governments for many years, but the decision to give it a real shape was taken by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

CM Yogi gave priority to the project

Dr. Lalji Prasad Nirmal said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave priority to this project along with approving its construction. He said that the Chief Minister has fulfilled the dreams of Mai Saheb Savita Ambedkar. For this, Ambedkar Mahasabha expresses its gratitude to the Yogi government.

There will be a 25 feet tall statue of Dr. Ambedkar in the memorial.

A 25 feet high bronze statue of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar will be installed in the memorial complex. Apart from this, a three-storey administrative building, modern museum and photo gallery are also being built here. This museum will showcase Baba Saheb’s life, struggle and his contribution in the making of the Constitution.

Along with this, a huge library and research center is also being constructed. Here, research facilities up to PhD level will be available in collaboration with Ambedkar University. Hostel and food arrangements for the researchers will also be available on the campus itself.

Baba Saheb’s thoughts will reach the new generation through digital technology.

Yogi government is also modernizing this monument technically. Here, a plan has been made to convey Baba Saheb’s thoughts to the new generation through audio-visual presentation, virtual reality show and digital mediums. The ashes of Dr. Ambedkar kept safe in the Ambedkar Mahasabha will also be installed here with full respect.

Apart from this, a Vipassana meditation center is also being built in the campus, so that this place can become a center of social consciousness and spiritual peace. Basement, substation, pump room, internal roads, drainage system, landscaping, boundary wall and attractive entrance are also being developed in the memorial complex.

Akhilesh Yadav accused of breach of promise

Referring to the struggle for the construction of the memorial, Dr. Lalji Prasad Nirmal said that on January 22, 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was to come to Ambedkar Mahasabha in Lucknow to see the urn of Baba Saheb’s ashes. He told that two days before this, the then Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had announced to give five acres of land for the construction of a memorial in CG City Lucknow in a press conference at the Chief Minister’s residence.

According to Dr. Nirmal, Lucknow Development Authority had also sent a proposal to the Housing Development Department for allotment of land, but later this process could not proceed and the related documents also went missing. He told that after Yogi Adityanath became the Chief Minister in 2017, the demand for construction of the memorial was again raised, which was accepted by the Chief Minister.
