In the Heritage Week Awards 2025, the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board was awarded the “Golden Bainan Award”. The state is becoming a major heritage destination of India due to the conservation of world heritage sites like Khajuraho, Gwalior, Maheshwar, Sanchi and Bhimbetka.

Bhopal. Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat presented the Heritage Tourism – Best State category “Golden Bainon Award” to the Heritage Week Awards 2025 to Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board (MPTB). The award was given at a ceremony held in New Delhi on 13 September. The award reflects the commitment of Madhya Pradesh, under which the state has done remarkable work in the preservation and promotion of its cultural heritage and architectural heritage.

Madhya Pradesh: Lively symbol of civilization and culture

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Religious Trust and Religion (Independent Charge) Dharmendra Singh Lodhi said that Madhya Pradesh is a lively symbol of India’s civilization.

  • Grand Temple of Khajuraho
  • Historical Fort of Gwalior
  • Ghat of Maheshwar

All these heritage are proof of timeless dignity and constant relevance. Tourism -based development is being encouraged by linking heritage protection with public participation under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav.

Opportunities for local people and responsible tourism

Additional Chief Secretary Tourism and Culture and MPTB Managing Director Shiv Shekhar Shukla said that this award proves the thinking of Madhya Pradesh. He says that the state:

  • Local people are providing direct benefits from tourism.
  • Is using historical sites in a new form.
  • Is protecting traditions and culture.
  • The responsible tourist is promoting participation.

He said that this honor further inspires us to make Madhya Pradesh a major heritage destination of India, where every monument tells its story and every tradition survives.

Madhya Pradesh is connecting it with modern development while keeping its cultural heritage safe, while realizing the mantra of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “heritage to development”. The identity of the state is being established in a leading form under the protection of world heritage sites.

Three permanent UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Madhya Pradesh:

  • Khajuraho Group Temple
  • Bhimbetka rock painting site
  • Sanchi Stupa

Apart from this, conservation and development of historical cities like Khajuraho, Orchha, Mandu and Chanderi is also important examples in this direction.

A total of 18 sites in Madhya Pradesh are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This proves the global significance of the state’s legacy.
