Increasing threat of Hantavirus
Recently, cases of spread of Hantavirus were reported on a cruise running in the Atlantic Ocean. Since then, many types of apprehensions are being raised regarding this virus. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization is also raising the possibility of human-to-human transmission of this virus. This is because 3 people have died on the cruise due to the virus. Some other people are also said to be ill now. If human to human transmission of the virus occurs, it can spread rapidly.
Hantavirus is a serious viral disease, which is usually spread through the urine and saliva of infected rats. It is being speculated that the people present on the cruise had come in contact with an infected rat. Due to which this virus has spread among them. Although nothing has been said clearly about whether it has spread from one person to another or not, it is suspected that it may happen.
Can this virus spread among humans?
Can hantavirus spread between humans? In response to this question, epidemiologist Dr. Jugal Kishore says that at present no official cases of human to human transmission of this virus have been reported. The World Health Organization also says that it is not transmitted from one person to another, but if there is any change in the strain and its Ende strain is in circulation, then there is a risk of infection in humans, but at present there is no accurate information about the strain.
Dr. Koshir says that right now there is no case of this virus in any country. The outbreak has occurred on the cruise ship itself. In such a situation, there is no need to panic but still there is a need to remain alert regarding the virus. Especially people should know its symptoms
