The owner of Biocon, a big company in the pharma sector, has appointed her niece Claire Majumdar as her successor at the age of 73. 37 year old Claire Majumdar is a brilliant businesswoman. She is the Founder CEO of Bikara Therapeutics. This is a company based in America which was started by Biocon and which focuses on new treatment of cancer. Under his leadership, the company listed on NASDAQ in 2024 and has since grown its market value to more than $1.6 billion, while its lead treatment is still in clinical trials.
His career includes both venture capital and drug development. He previously worked at Third Rock Ventures, where he focused on company formation and strategy, and then at Rheos Medicines, where he helped drive business growth, including a key partnership with Roche.
Claire’s educational background
His achievements in matters of education are equally brilliant. He holds a degree in biological engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and a PhD in cancer biology from the Stanford School of Medicine. His research on tumor immunology and cancer epigenetics has been published in renowned journals like Nature and Cell Stem Cell.
Despite her illustrious background, Claire Majumdar has mostly stayed away from the public spotlight, which is a stark contrast to her aunt. His aunt had made Biocon the largest biotech company in India and a major company of biosimilar medicines at the global level. Mazumdar-Shaw has indicated that Claire will have the support of a large ecosystem of family and professional leaders. This includes her brother Eric Mazumdar, who is an expert in artificial intelligence at the California Institute of Technology, and her husband Thomas Roberts, who is at Massachusetts General Hospital.
