Former India cricketer Ravi Shastri lashed out at ‘s Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after the team suffered its sixth consecutive defeat in IPL 2026. LSG are having a torrid run in the tournament and are placed ninth on the table with seven defeats in nine matches.
The Rishabh Pant-led side posted a formidable 228/5 against the Mumbai Indians, but it was not enough to win as MI comfortably chased the target, courtesy of a commanding 143-run opening partnership between Rohit Sharma (84) and Ryan Rickelton (83).
highlighted inconsistencies in LSG’s performance, adding that six consecutive losses can dent a side’s confidence.
“The problem with LSG is that when their bowling unit performs, the batters fail to back it up, and when the batters score runs, the bowlers go for plenty. There’s no consistency. Six losses in a row can really dent a side’s confidence, and even in games where you are in a comfortable position, there are thoughts like, ‘Will we win, won’t we?'” Shastri told Jio Hotstar.
What Is Going Wrong For LSG?
Shastri also pointed out that LSG failed to capitalise on batting-friendly conditions despite strong start against the Mumbai Indians
“You are 100 for one in 7 overs, and in the next 13 overs, you score less than 130, which means you have faltered. And you won’t get better batting conditions than this,” he added.
Shastri added that the LSG management will have to analyse their weak points in batting and work on them, while also asking the team to tighten up the bowling.
“So, they’ll have to sit down and think about what went wrong in the last three overs while batting, and how they can tighten up their bowling,” he said
Shastri said that the bowlers will have to adjust their line and length given the conditions, and find out a way to do well in batting-friendly conditions.
“The bowlers have to adjust their lines and lengths according to the conditions. The Lucknow wicket tends to assist fast bowlers, but when you go to Bengaluru or Mumbai and get good batting wickets, that’s where the real test lies,” he concluded.
How Can LSG Qualify?
LSG are on the verge of an embarrassing exit from the IPL, but there is still a glimmer of hope. If LSG can win the remaining five games, they’ll reach 14 points, which might give them a chance to qualify if a few results go their way.
