The journey of IPL 2026 has reached such a stage where now every match and every result can change the picture of the race for the playoffs. Be it someone’s victory or someone’s defeat, each match will decide the shape of the final 4. But not only victory or defeat, but rain can also play a big role in it. This is because there is a threat of rain looming over the match between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings and this match may also be cancelled.
The 48th match of IPL 2026 will be played between Delhi-Chennai on Tuesday 5th May at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. But the weather has an evil eye on this match. Actually, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the evening of May 5 in Delhi. Under this, there is a possibility of rain and hailstorm till around 6 pm. All this can happen in many areas including East Delhi and Central Delhi and Jaitley Stadium is located at this place.
According to the alert and forecast of the Meteorological Department, there is no possibility of rain after 7 pm, i.e. from the time the match starts. But due to rain and hailstorm just before that, there will be a possibility of the ground getting flooded. In such a situation, the match may get delayed and if the ground is not prepared on time, the match may also get cancelled. If this happens then not only will the fans be disappointed but it will also be harmful for both the teams.
This match is important for both the teams because they are currently behind in the race for the playoffs and are present in the middle part of the points table. In such a situation, it is very important for both of them to win this match. But who will gain or lose in case the match is cancelled? This is a big question. Will Delhi’s journey end or will Chennai be eliminated? Actually, if we look at the points table, despite the cancellation of the match, the playoff hopes of either Delhi or Chennai will not end.
At present, both the teams have played 9-9 matches in IPL 2026 and coincidentally both have achieved 8-8 points with 4-4 wins. Due to net run rate only, Chennai is at sixth place and Delhi is at 7th place. Now if the match is canceled then both will get 1 point each and their total will be 9 points each. Even after this, both will have 4-4 matches left. In such a situation, if both these teams win their remaining matches then they can reach the playoffs.
