Barwani Red Chilli GI Tag: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav made a big announcement of getting GI tag for Barwani’s red chilli in the Balram Agricultural Festival. Also gave information about irrigation projects, modern farming, seed production centres, many new schemes and facilities for banana and cotton farmers.
The government has once again made big announcements for the farmers of Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, while addressing the Balram Agricultural Festival organized in Barwani through video conferencing on Monday, praised the agricultural achievements of the district. He said that Barwani is no longer limited to farming only, but is emerging as a new model of agriculture, entrepreneurship and innovation. During this, he called for giving GI tag to the famous red chilli of Barwani, speeding up irrigation projects and farmers to adopt modern technology.
Barwani red chilli will get GI tag
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that chilli producing farmers of Barwani are now adopting scientific farming, modern grading and better packaging. Due to this, the demand for red chilli of the district is continuously increasing not only in the country but also in foreign countries. He announced that the state government is making efforts to get GI (Geographical Indication) tag for Barwani red chilli.
This will give global recognition to this product and will increase the chances of farmers getting better prices in the international market. The Chief Minister also appealed to young farmers to start agri-startups, learn new technologies and take maximum benefits of government schemes.

Government’s focus on irrigation, seeds and market
The Chief Minister said that work is going on at a fast pace on many irrigation projects in Barwani at a cost of about Rs 5 thousand crores. Upon their completion, more than 1.21 lakh hectares of agricultural land in 319 villages of the district will get the benefit of irrigation. He also said that Khesia Agricultural Produce Market will be developed as a model market equipped with modern facilities. To provide quality seeds to the farmers, a model seed production center is being established on 50 acres in Barwani. The Chief Minister assured that there is no shortage of fertilizers in the state and farmers need not worry about it.
Emphasis on banana, cotton and increasing the income of farmers
Dr. Mohan Yadav said that Barwani’s banana has created its own identity in the markets of Gulf countries. Banana growers will get huge benefit from the mega food processing cluster being developed in Ghatwa, Rajpur. At the same time, work is also being done on a plan to connect cotton producers with PM Mitra Park and textile mills of South India.
The Chief Minister also mentioned schemes like crop loan for farmers with a period of one year, compensation up to four times the market value on land acquisition, bonus on MSP of Kodo-Kutki, subsidy for dairy and promotion of solar energy. He said that the aim of the government is to increase the income of farmers and connect agriculture with technology and modern markets, so that Madhya Pradesh can further strengthen its identity among the leading agricultural states of the country.
