By winning by 6 wickets against Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai not only achieved its third win of the season but also completed its biggest run chase in IPL history.
Rohit-Rikelton pair turned the match
Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton were the real heroes of this historic victory of Mumbai. Rohit Sharma played a captaincy inning of 84 runs, while Rickelton scored 83 runs. Both of them made the match one-sided by making a partnership of 146 runs for the first wicket. This partnership was the turning point from where Lucknow’s grip started loosening.

Mumbai needed 229 runs to win. Right from the beginning the team adopted an aggressive approach and never allowed the run rate to come under pressure.

On the basis of all this, Mumbai achieved the target with 8 balls remaining after losing 4 wickets.
Nicholas Pooran’s innings went in vain
Earlier, while batting, Lucknow Super Giants had made a big score of 228 runs. Nicholas Pooran scored a stormy half-century. Apart from them:

- Himmat Singh – 40 not out
- Aiden Markram – 31 runs
However, despite such a big score, the bowlers could not save this target.
Toss and starting moment of the match
Suryakumar Yadav, captaining Mumbai, won the toss and decided to bowl first. Lucknow did not have a good start and Josh Inglis (13) was out in the third over itself. This initial setback proved to be heavy for the team.
Rohit’s return changed the game
The most special thing in this match was the return of Rohit Sharma. The manner in which he made a comeback after missing the first four matches boosted the confidence of the team. His innings was not limited to just scoring runs, but proved to be the foundation of the entire run chase.
