Team India fast bowler Umran Malik, known for his blistering speed and referred to as the Jammu Express, has returned to action following an injury setback that ruled him out of IPL 2025. The young bowler has regained full fitness and returned to competitive cricket ahead of the domestic season.
Umran Malik grabbed headlines during IPL 2022 with his express pace over 150 kmph. He was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for ₹75 lakh at the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, an injury ruled him out of the tournament. However, Umran remained with the KKR squad to undergo rehabilitation.
Umran Malik Regains Full Fitness Before Domestic Season
Umran Malik has made a strong return to competitive cricket after recovering from injury, as confirmed by journalist Mohsin Kamal. The Jammu speedster picked up three wickets in a T20 trial match in Srinagar and had taken two wickets the previous day.
“NEW: Umran Malik finally regains full fitness and has returned to action. He picked up 3 wickets today in Srinagar in the ongoing T20 trial matches. Took two wickets a day before as well. Should be available for the entire upcoming domestic season,” Mohsin Kamal wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Umran Malik Made his International Debut in 2023
Umran Malik made his IPL debut in 2021 with SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). He took 22 wickets in 14 matches in the 2022 season and earned a call-up to the Indian team. The bowler clocked 156 kmph against Sri Lanka in 2023.
After a promising start, his form dipped post-mid-2023. He last played for India in July 2023 and struggled in IPL 2024. The fast bowler played just one match in 2025, where SunRisers Hyderabad reached the final.
He also missed key domestic tournaments like the Buchi Babu and Duleep Trophy due to health issues. Umran still has time to focus on his fitness and reignite his career with a stronger comeback.
