New Delhi: A very big and good news has come out related to the Central Government’s ‘Agniveer’ scheme for the youth joining the Indian Armed Forces. The armed forces are now considering changing this rule, under which only 25% of Agniveers were kept as permanent soldiers after 4 years of service. Now there are preparations to increase this limit from 50 to 75%.
The first batch of Agniveers selected under the Agneepath scheme is about to complete their four-year tenure. Meanwhile, the major wings of the Army have sent a proposal to the Defense Ministry and the ‘Department of Military Affairs’ for major changes in this policy. Indian Navy is at the forefront
Long training is required to operate technical and complex warships in the Navy. Therefore, the Navy is showing maximum interest in retaining 75% of its trained fire fighters in permanent service.
Army and Air Force proposal
The Indian Army and Air Force have proposed to increase the current limit of 25% to 50%. There are some solid reasons behind increasing this retention limit, such as maintaining experience and operational capability. If Agniveers, who have become experts in using modern weapons after 4 years of rigorous training, are taken out of service, the Army is not able to take advantage of their experience. Therefore, it is necessary to retain trained soldiers in the army.
Saving on training expenses
Training new recruits from scratch every 4 years is an expensive and time-consuming task. If only already trained soldiers are hired further, then the administrative expenses of the army will be significantly reduced. Also, there is a need for well-trained young soldiers to protect the country’s borders, a warfare style based on modern technology and to overcome the shortage of staff in the army.
What is the benefit to youth looking for jobs?
If this proposal gets final approval, then the chances of getting a permanent job for lakhs of youth joining the army by becoming Agniveer will increase by three times. If 75% of soldiers become permanent, then worries about job security will also end.
Apart from this, for the 25% soldiers who will come out after 4 years, facilities like 10% to 15% reservation and ‘Service Fund’ package in Sashastra Seema Bal, State Police Departments and Indian Railways will continue to be available as before.
