What came out in the research?
The report of excessive adulteration of cadmium in artificial jewelery was published in Sunday Times Investigation. According to this, popular online platforms were selling rings, necklaces and earrings in which the adulteration of cadmium was 9000 times more. The rule is that artificial jewelery in the UK should not contain more than 0.01 percent cadmium.
According to this, if a product is made of 925 silver then it was adulterated with 92.5 percent poisonous metal. Actually, the ring was being sold as being made of 925 silver i.e. 92.5 percent silver. Whereas 92 percent of the ring was of cadmium.
On the other hand, a bracelet had 3300 times more cadmium adulteration. After investigation, these products were recalled but this kind of adulteration is very shocking.
Risk of cancer and kidney-liver disease
UK Health Security Agency It is said that if cadmium is used in any way for a long time, it not only causes cancer but also kidney and liver related diseases. Professor Christer Hogstrand of King’s College London told The Sunday Times that such heavy metals can cause kidney cancer. Apart from damaging the liver, these things also make one a victim of osteoporosis.
Disadvantages of artificial jewelery
The report says that this type of jewelery poses more risks than earrings. Actually, after getting a hole in our ear, it is able to directly contact the skin. In this way poisonous metals enter the body. Experts say that artificial jewelery is used on a large scale in India.
