TMC chief Mamata Banerjee said that if needed, she will join the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protests in Delhi. He called for opposition parties to unite under the INDIA alliance against the BJP and launched a scathing attack on the Centre.
Kolkata (West Bengal) [भारत]July 21 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said she will visit Delhi if needed and join the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protests. Along with this, he called for opposition unity against BJP.
Addressing TMC’s Martyrs’ Day rally in Kolkata, Banerjee said, “We supported CJP from the beginning. If needed, I will go to Delhi and join their protests.” She further said, “Now is the time to unite under the umbrella of INDIA alliance against BJP. I request all the parties of the country and the entire country, and also in Bengal.”
Referring to the protests in Delhi on Monday, Banerjee said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had “turned his car” after the alleged police action on students. He also alleged that the BJP-led government has crossed all limits of dictatorship.
Mamata’s all-out attack on BJP
“People can feel the atrocities of the BJP. It has already surpassed Hitler and Stalin,” he said, adding that the ongoing fight is a “movement to save democracy”. Banerjee also alleged that the BJP had tried to disrupt TMC’s Martyrs’ Day program and claimed that around 600 bikers with guns had come to destroy the Martyrs’ Day stage on Monday night.
He said, “Last night I, Abhishek, along with other leaders, protected the Martyr’s Day stage from the continuous attack of the BJP. But even after informing the police several times, no help was received. We can understand on whose instructions the work is done.”
Taking aim at the BJP-led state government, Banerjee said, “The BJP state government is a government of fear. They have killed and harassed many of our party workers.”
He further said, “They wanted to stop me from holding the rally today. But they failed.” She also said that she would soon visit the districts of West Bengal and challenged those trying to stop her. She said, “I will visit the districts soon, let’s see how your guards stop me.”
Banerjee also accused the BJP of targeting her party leaders through investigations and cases and claimed that more than 14,000 cases have been registered against TMC leaders. “They have filed more than 14,000 cases against our leaders; we will bring garlands when they come out of jail.”
On the issue of electoral lists, he alleged, “Those who looted votes, deleted names of voters from SIR electoral lists, they will come before you very soon.”
The TMC chief also accused the BJP of failing to fulfill assurances in several areas, including Annapurna Bhandar Scheme, dearness allowance and pay commission. He said, “It is shameful that the government failed to fulfill its assurances in every area including Annapurna Bhandar, DA and Pay Commission.”
Banerjee also alleged that the BJP has failed to act against corruption and said that more than 400 cases have been registered against TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. “More than 400 cases have been registered against Abhishek Banerjee but will not be able to investigate any allegations.”
On the Ram temple issue, Banerjee alleged, “They looted the Pranami box from the temple.”
He also criticized the government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and said an investigation into the matter could eventually reveal the Prime Minister’s name. “He said, will investigate on Covid; PM Narendra Modi’s name will come up.”
Banerjee also alleged discrimination in organizing religious events, saying, “Seven days were stopped for Yoga Day, but permission was not given for Namaz.”
The TMC chief further said that his party will not allow those leaders who had left it to return. Taking aim at the rebel MPs, he said, “We will not allow any of them who left the party to rejoin Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress to come back.”
Violent protest in Delhi, many injured
Her comments come a day after she condemned the alleged police action on protesting students and youth in Delhi, saying, “I strongly condemn the police brutality on our youth and students in Delhi today. What kind of government is this that is afraid of its own students? What kind of democracy is this that answers questions with sticks and tear gas instead of talks?”
Earlier in the day, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had written to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, seeking details of FIRs registered and those detained following the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar on Monday. Kejriwal also visited Sansad Marg police station.
Meanwhile, Union Health Minister JP Nadda visited RML Hospital and Lady Hardinge Hospital on Tuesday to review the condition of protesters injured during Monday’s clashes. Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also met the injured protesters at RML Hospital.
CJP’s protest march towards Parliament on Monday turned violent, with Delhi Police claiming that more than 118 police personnel were injured in the clashes. About 60 protesters were also reported injured. Police have registered five FIRs in connection with the alleged violence, stone pelting and vandalism and are examining over 250 videos to identify those involved in the incidents.
Meanwhile, climate activist Sonam Wangchuk continues to be treated at Safdarjung Hospital, where her vital parameters remain stable, though doctors said her blood sugar levels are still low, and her serum potassium level was recorded at 3.2 mEq/L. (ANI)
