CBI Fake Insurance Scam: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has busted two illegal call centers in Nashik, who are accused of selling fake insurance policies to British citizens. These call centers were being operated under the name of self -business solutions. The accused used to ask for financial information from the victims and pay for fake insurance policies by calling themselves insurance agents or government officials. The CBI said that about 60 employees were involved in these illegal activities. British citizens were being misled using VOIP, fake phone numbers and fake documents.

How was this international fraud?

The accused used to ask for information about credit and debit cards from the victims. In addition, using fake documents and scripts, it was assured that they are government officials or authorized insurance agents. In this way, the victims inadvertently shared their financial information. The CBI seized digital evidence during a search in Nashik and Kalyan (Thane). In this, 8 mobile phones, 8 computer systems, servers and Rs 5 lakh cash were recovered. Officials are also telling that the accused were transferring income through Peepal and various banking channels.

A case was registered against four persons and some unknown public servants on 11 September for running fake call centers. After this, Ganesh and Shyam Kamankar were arrested on 13 September. Both were produced in Thane’s special CBI court and sent to police custody till 15 September. This action of the CBI is considered a major step in such international fraud cases. Officials said that further investigation is going on and efforts are being made to see how many British citizens have been affected by it.
