In the last hour of ITR filing, the portal is repeatedly stalled, will the government increase the deadline?

ITR filling date

The last date to file income tax return (ITR) is now just a few hours away. The government had earlier increased the deadline of 31 July to 15 September, so that the taxpayers could get relief. But as time is over, taxpayers, chartered accountants and financial professionals are expressing their concern on social media. People say that the income tax portal is going on a lot of slow, errors are coming again and again and many times the login is not being done. This is the reason that now hashtags like #EXTEND_DUE_DATE_IMMEDIELY are trending fast on social media platform x. Users are constantly highlighting the technical faults of the portal by sharing screenshots and videos.

Taxpayers pleaded with the government

Taxpayers have started demanding the government to increase the deadline vigorously. One user wrote, ITR portal is slowing down day by day, it has become impossible to work. The government should immediately increase the deadline, otherwise millions of people will bear penalty.

The other questioned, more than 16 organizations have demanded to increase the deadline, yet why is there no hearing? A taxpayer shared, I tried 15 times, every time Soryry! You get the message of you do not have access to page only.

Along with this, tanj and sarcasm are also being seen on social media. Somebody said in a funny way, the deadline will increase, till then watch the Jupala dance of the portal. At the same time, other users raised the question that the form late, the portal late, but why does penalty always look on time?

Organizations wrote letters to the Ministry of Finance

The Financial Industry Employees Association (FIEA) has written a letter to the government and CBDT requesting to increase the deadline. He says that this year’s floods, technical problems and increasing compliance burden are increasing difficulties for taxpayers. Despite the continuous appeals from the organizations, no official announcement has been made by the Income Tax Department so far. The question is arising whether the government will take this demand of the public seriously?

What are the chances of increasing deadline?

According to government data, more than 6 crore ITRs have been filed so far. Last year, the figure was 7.28 crores, and this time it is expected to increase by about 10 percent. It is estimated that the total filing can reach above 8 crores by the end. Cleartax’s business head Avinash Polepali believes that this time the deadline is less likely to increase. He says that most of the taxpayers will file returns on time, so the department has not given any extension yet. His advice is to file your ITR by 15 September, so that penalty can be avoided.
