Raipur. The government’s Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) is no less than a boon for the special backward tribe dominated villages living in the remote forest areas and difficult hilly terrain of Chhattisgarh. Realizing the concept of ‘Hospital at your doorstep’, this service has provided health services to 2035 people near their homes in the last three and a half months.
Health care in remote areas: Now the compulsion to walk is over
Earlier, the villagers of these areas had to walk several kilometers even for minor treatment. But now under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana, this mobile unit, which started from January 15, 2026, is continuously organizing camps in Kamar tribe dominated villages like Baldakchhar, Aurai and other villages of Kasdol area. This has eliminated the need for people to go to the city to a great extent.
Testing and free medicine at one place: Complete treatment in the village itself
This mobile medical unit works like a mobile hospital. A team of medical officer, lab technician, nurse and driver is present in it.
- Important tests like BP, Sugar, Malaria and Hemoglobin are done on the spot
- Consulted by doctors
- Free medicines are also provided to the patients
With this, villagers are getting complete health facilities at one place.
Pre-determined schedule and announcement: increasing confidence
The date and venue of the camp is decided one month in advance by the administration. In villages, information is given to the people through Munadi (information by beating drums). Due to this, more and more people are taking advantage of this facility and enthusiasm is also being seen among them. Villagers say that earlier it used to take a whole day to go to the hospital and the expense was also high. Now by getting treatment in the village itself, both time and money are being saved.
Steps from traditional treatment to modern medicine
The biggest impact of this initiative has been on the thinking of the villagers. Where earlier people were dependent on Baiga-Guniya and herbs, now they have started relying on modern medicine. Instead of hiding diseases, people have now started getting tested and treated on time.
