UCL: Thigh injury rules PSG defender Hakimi out of second leg vs Bayern

Paris Saint-Germain have been dealt a major injury blow after star defender Achraf Hakimi was ruled out of the return leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal against Bayern Munich because of a right thigh injury.

The French club announced the injury update a day after the first leg.

The Moroccan right back injured his thigh during PSG’s thrilling 5-4 win over the Bavarian giants in the first leg on Tuesday at the Parc de Princes.

Hakimi set to miss several weeks with thigh injury

While the extent of the injury is unknown, Hakimi is likely to be sidelined for several weeks.

With PSG holding a narrow one-goal lead, the stage is set for an exciting second leg of the semifinal, scheduled next Wednesday in Munich.

Hakimi’s injury comes at a crucial time for PSG, who are gunning for their second successive Champions League title. The former Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund defender has sustained a major injury for the second time this season. His previous injury setback also came against Bayern.

He was sidelined for several weeks after injuring his left ankle during a 2-1 defeat to the Bundesliga giants in the Champions League group stage in November.

PSG, Bayern deliver a match for the ages

PSG and Bayern delivered a football match for the ages on a record-breaking evening in Paris. PSG’s 5-4 win in a nine-goal thriller at the Parc des Princes is being hailed as one of the greatest matches of all time.

Both PSG and Bayern scripted history on Wednesday by becoming the first two teams to score at least four goals in a major European semifinal and the first to score 40 times each in the Champions League.
