Nagpur: Anonymous letter warns of ‘radiation attack’ at RSS headquarters and Smriti Mandir

New Delhi: Panic gripped Maharashtra’s Nagpur after an anonymous letter warned of a radiation attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters in the city and also at the Smriti Mandir. The letter was sent to the Police Commissioner and it warned of use of dangerous substances, like Cesium 137.

Investigations launched, nothing suspicious found so far

Following the threat letter, an Anti-Terrorism Squad, a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other experts along with the police, started an investigation at the scene. So far however nothing suspicious has been found. The investigators however are still at the RSS headquarters and the Smriti Mandir, leaving no gaps in search operations.

The investigators are being extra cautious, as this is not just a normal threat, but involves threat of use of a dangerous radioactive substance, the ‘Cesium-137’. The important point here is that the locations that the letter has threatened will be attacked are not just sensitive but also linked to a major ideological organisation in the country.

The questions being raised now are whether this is just another prank or is it a calculated move by some anti-socials or some organisation, to challenge the security apparatus. Currently the security agencies are investigating the matter from all angles. They are analysing all details with utmost seriousness and are trying to locate the person who sent the threat letter to the Police Commissioner’s office.

Letter mentioned name of organisation

The anonymous letter was sent to Nagpur Police Commissioner, Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal. It said that radioactive material had been dumped at the RSS headquarters in Mahal area and the Smriti Mandir complex in Reshimbagh area.

The letter also mentioned an alleged organisation named ‘DSS’. They had used objectionable language against the Sangh, said the police personnel investigating the matter.
