5 burnt alive as moving car catches fire on Delhi–Mumbai Expressway in Alwar

New Delhi: Five people, including a child and three women, were charred to death after their moving car caught fire on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway in the Laxmangarh police station area of Alwar district late Wednesday night. The driver sustained severe burn injuries.

The identities of the victims who were burnt in the incident have not yet been established, and the police are working to identify them.

Car turned into a ball of flames

DSP Kailash Jindal said that a car coming from Delhi and going towards Kota suddenly caught fire due to unknown reasons. The accident happened around 1 am, near Maujpur at pillar number 115/300 on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway.

Within moments, the blaze engulfed the entire car. The occupants did not get any chance to react, and the vehicle turned into a ball of flames in no time.

Five people in the car — three women, a child, and a man — were burnt alive. All were residents of Sheopur in Madhya Pradesh. The driver, Vinod Kumar Mehar, also from Sheopur, managed to jump out of the car with great difficulty and save his life. However, he sustained around 80 percent burn injuries in the incident, sources said.

Blaze reduces car to ashes

Upon receiving information from passersby, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) patrolling team and an ambulance reached the spot immediately. A patrol team from Laxmangarh police station, along with SHO Nekiram, also reached the spot and informed the fire brigade.

However, by the time the fire brigade arrived, the blaze had already reduced the car to ashes. Soon after, two fire tenders brought the fire under control. DSP Jindal also arrived shortly thereafter, took stock of the situation, and ensured that the severely injured driver was sent to the CHC in Pinan for treatment. As his condition was critical, he was later referred to Alwar and admitted to the general hospital there.

SP Sudhir Chaudhary also reached the accident site, reviewed the situation, and issued necessary instructions to police officials.
