IPL 2026, Jasprit Bumrah: What has never happened before in IPL history, happened with Mumbai Indians in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. It happened for the first time that Mumbai Indians failed to defend a total of 200 plus at Wankhede ground. If there are no runs on the score board then it can be considered the fault of the batsmen. But, not being able to defend a big total like 243 runs is a sheer failure of the bowlers. The leader of the bowling brigade of Mumbai Indians is Jasprit Bumrah. In other words, he is the most experienced, most lethal, most important weapon of the team. But, the truth is that they failed miserably against Sunrisers Hyderabad. It would not be wrong if it is said that his bowling played a big role in the defeat of Mumbai Indians.
Bumrah’s ineffective bowling
Jasprit Bumrah proved to be the most expensive among the Mumbai Indians bowlers who bowled full 4 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He gave 54 runs in 4 overs at an economy of 13.50 and did not take any wicket. However, in IPL 2026, Bumrah’s connection with the wicket has been broken from the very beginning. He has not taken many wickets in the 8 matches played so far for Mumbai Indians. Bumrah, who remained wicketless against Sunrisers Hyderabad, has earlier failed to take wickets against other teams also. So far he has taken only 2 wickets in IPL 2026.
Third most expensive spell of IPL career
Bumrah used to speak in the powerplay and death overs of IPL. Every ball of his gave hope for a wicket. But, the story of IPL 2026 is different. Here Bumrah is not scaring the batsmen but is beating them. The beating of balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad was the third most expensive in Bumrah’s IPL career. Earlier in 2015, he had given 55 runs in 4 overs against Delhi Capitals. Whereas in 2021, 56 runs were given away in 4 overs against CSK. Both these matches were played in Delhi.
Why is Bumrah the villain in MI’s defeat?
Bumrah proved to be the most expensive in his overall T20 career so far this year, when he spent 58 runs without taking any wicket against New Zealand in Thiruvananthapuram. The worst thrashing of Bumrah’s balls at the Wankhede ground before the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in a T20 match was against RCB in IPL 2015, where he gave away 52 runs in 4 overs.
In the IPL 2026 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he gave 2 more runs. He gave 54 runs in 4 overs. This failure of the team’s star bowler with the ball made it difficult for Mumbai Indians to defend the score of 243.
