New Delhi: Activist Sonam Wangchuk’s condition is stable, but she still needs constant medical monitoring. Safdarjung Hospital said on Tuesday that it was necessary to do this due to the long fast and continuous discrepancies in the lab reports. Dr. Manisha Thakur, head of the medicine department at Safdarjung Hospital, told in a press briefing that Wangchuk is being treated by a team of experts from AIIMS Delhi and Safdarjung Hospital.
Sonam Wangchuk’s latest health report came out
- Dr. Thakur said, “At present his vitals are stable. However, his blood sugar level continues to remain low.”
- He said that in the lab test, Wangchuk’s potassium level was found to be 3.2 mEq per liter. He also suffers from persistent ‘pancytopenia’, in which hemoglobin decreases and white blood cells (leukocyte count) also decrease.
- “Given these clinical and laboratory findings, it is important to keep a close eye on them through frequent monitoring,” Dr. Thakur said.
According to him, Wangchuk is currently being given oral ORS (Oral Rehydration Therapy) and potassium supplements in the form of syrup. But he continues to refuse IV therapy and glucose. - “He continues to refuse IV therapy and any type of glucose,” Dr. Thakur said.
- He further said that the long fast has resulted in mild to moderate dehydration, frequent disturbances in lab reports and physical stress. Therefore, constant clinical monitoring is very important.
Keeping a close eye on Sonam Wangchuk’s condition
“In view of this dehydration… he needs constant medical monitoring. This is essential for his recovery and timely identification of any complications. The team of doctors at Safdarjung Hospital is providing him all necessary medical care and his condition is being closely monitored,” Dr Thakur said.

- All this is happening at a time when massive protests took place in the capital Delhi under the leadership of CJP activist Abhijit Dipke on Monday.
- Delhi Police sources said on Tuesday that an FIR has been registered against unknown people in connection with the vandalism and stone pelting of vehicles in Connaught Place and Parliament Street during the protest to reach Parliament.
- According to the police, the miscreants vandalized police vehicles near Regal Cinema in the Outer Circle of Connaught Place and threw stones at the police team. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
- Sources said that during the protests at Jantar Mantar, FIRs have been registered under several sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) in connection with the incidents of violence, vandalism, damaging government property, obstructing the work of government employees and snatching things like police jackets and helmets.
