Ganga Expressway is a 594 km long mega project from Meerut to Prayagraj, which will boost investment, industry, employment and faster connectivity in UP, connecting 12 districts. This project is being considered a big step towards the goal of one trillion dollar economy.

Lucknow. It is morning time. A vehicle descends on the high-speed Ganga Expressway from Bijauli village in Meerut. Running at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour, this vehicle moves ahead crossing fields, towns and cities. Modern toll plazas, fuel stations, way-side facilities and industrial areas are visible along the way. This journey reaches Prayagraj by evening. The distance which earlier took 10 to 12 hours to cover, will now be completed in about 6 to 7 hours.

Ganga Expressway is not just a road project, but a strong infrastructure model moving towards making Uttar Pradesh a “One Trillion Dollar Economy”. This expressway will not only increase the speed of vehicles, but will also give new impetus to industry, investment, trade and employment.

Ganga Expressway: Mega development project connecting eastern and western UP

The 594 km long Ganga Expressway is a greenfield and access-controlled highway being built from Meerut to Prayagraj. The project connects 12 districts including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj.

It is a 6-lane expressway, which can be expanded to 8 lanes in the future. This project, being prepared at a cost of approximately Rs 36 to 37 thousand crores, is being developed on PPP model. This expressway will directly connect the industrial capacity of Western Uttar Pradesh with the agricultural and labor-based areas of Purvanchal. This will reduce the distance between production, supply and market and will speed up economic activities.

Meerut to Prayagraj journey will be easy, logistics cost will reduce

After the opening of Ganga Expressway, the journey from Meerut to Prayagraj will become much easier and faster. Whereas earlier it used to take 10 to 12 hours to cover this distance, now this journey will be completed in only 6 to 7 hours. This will reduce transport and logistics costs. Agricultural products will be able to reach the market faster, which will increase the chances of farmers getting better prices. Besides, e-commerce, warehousing and distribution sectors will also get big benefits. Saving time directly translates into economic efficiency and this strengthens the growth rate of a state.

Industrial and economic development will gain momentum in 12 districts

New possibilities for development will arise in different areas in the 12 districts through which the Ganga Expressway is passing.

Expressway completed with high-tech design and world-class construction

Ganga Expressway has been designed keeping in mind the future needs. It is built on:

  • 14 big bridges
  • 165 small bridges
  • 7 Railway Overbridge
  • 32 flyover
  • 453 underpass
  • 795 box culvert

21 interchanges have been prepared for better connectivity, due to which the traffic will remain completely uninterrupted.

Ganga Expressway will be equipped with smart cameras and security features

Keeping in mind the safety of passengers, solar powered smart cameras have been installed at every kilometer on the expressway. Apart from this, 737 km long service road will make the movement of local people easier. Passengers will get facilities for rest, food and fuel in modern public convenience complexes.

Airstrip facility increases strategic importance

An emergency airstrip has also been built on the Ganga Expressway. Fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force will be able to land and take off on this airstrip. This makes this expressway not only a transportation project but also very important from a strategic point of view. Uttar Pradesh has joined the leading states of the country in terms of expressway network including airstrips.
