Relief from the scorching heat, but is it permanent?
For the past few days, the capital was battling severe heat and reports of temperature breaking records. The temperature reached 42.3°C on Monday, one of the hottest days of April. But this sudden rain has definitely brought relief by dropping the temperature. The maximum temperature recorded on Tuesday was 39.2°C, while on Wednesday it is expected to be around 38°C. However, the question still remains – will this relief last or will the heat strike once again?
Impact of Western Disturbance: The real story behind the weather
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), behind this dramatic change is an active Western Disturbance, which is acting in conjunction with the cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan, North-West Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana. As this system progresses, it can bring not only rain but also dust storms and thunderstorms. This pattern is usually seen in the pre-monsoon phase, but its intensity is more this time.

Yellow alert and hidden danger
IMD had already alerted people by issuing ‘Yellow Alert’. The administration has appealed to the people to exercise caution amid incidents of strong winds and lightning. Experts believe that such weather changes can also cause sudden damage, especially to weak structures and open areas.

Effect on pollution also: clean air
One positive aspect of this rain was that there was improvement in the air quality of Delhi. The rain washed away the dust and pollutant particles present in the air, leading to a drop in AQI and people breathed clean air.

What next? Relief or new challenge?
According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain and strong winds may continue in the coming days. But experts are warning that this may only be a temporary relief. As soon as the effect of western disturbance subsides, the temperature may rise again. This weather has become a mystery for Delhi-NCR – while on one hand there is relief, on the other hand there is also a shadow of uncertainty looming.
