Dr. Nikhil Tandon
Dr. M Srinivas, Director of AIIMS New Delhi, has been appointed member of NITI Aayog. Now the executive director of AIIMS will be Dr. Nikhil Tandon. His appointment has been made to this post till further orders. Dr. Tandon was HOD and Professor in the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism of AIIMS. He was on this post for a long time. Now along with this he has also been given the additional charge of Director AIIMS.
AIIMS In the letter issued by the administration, it has been said that this appointment of Dr. Tandon is being done for 6 months or till the appointment of the new director or whichever is earlier. Dr. Nikhil Tandon is the Head of the Department of Endochronology and Metabolism of AIIMS along with also holding the post of Dean (Academics). Along with this, he has also been made interim director.
Former President of Endocrine Society of India
Dr. Tandon was born in 1963 in Delhi. He had taken MD degree from AIIMS Delhi also. Dr. Tandon has been on faculty at AIIMS since 1993. Dr. Tandon has also done PhD. Dr. Tandon has also been the President of Endocrine Society of India and was awarded Padma Shri in the year 2015. Dr. Tandon has published more than 871 research papers, which have received more than 1 lakh citations.
He has been the chairman of WHO’s Technical Advisory Group on Diabetes. He is one of the senior faculty of AIIMS Delhi. After Dr. Srinivas’s appointment in NITI Aayog, it was expected that Dr. Tandon could be made the interim director of AIIMS on the basis of seniority.
Working on metabolic diseases for years
Dr. Tandon has been working on metabolic diseases like sugar, thyroid and hormone related diseases for decades. Dr. Tandon says that these diseases can be easily prevented by maintaining a good lifestyle. If every person takes care of his diet and exercises, then the chances of getting type 2 diabetes or thyroid are very less. Dr. Tandon has also published many research papers on this subject. Recently, Dr. Tandon led a major research on post-pregnancy diabetes in women.
