A remarkable performance at the 24th National Para Athletics Championship has propelled 20 year old javelin thrower Haney into the spotlight, strengthening his ambitions for future international success.
Competing in the F37 category, he registered an impressive throw of 58.80 metres, the farthest recorded globally in his category, though it does not qualify as an official world record due to the event not being recognised by the International Paralympic Committee.
Despite the lack of formal recognition, the achievement has significantly boosted Haney’s confidence as he prepares for major upcoming events, including the 2026 Asian Para Games and the Paralympic Games. His focus remains firmly on maintaining consistency and delivering medal winning performances on the international stage.
Hailing from the same village as Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker, Haney has steadily built an impressive record over the past three years. He secured gold at the 2023 Para Asian Games with a games record and followed it up with another top finish at the Indian Open Para Athletics International Championship the same year. Additionally, he has claimed gold medals in five consecutive National Games, underlining his dominance at the domestic level.
Reflecting on his recent performance, Haney expressed determination to carry forward his form. He aims not only to defend his titles but also to surpass existing benchmarks in upcoming competitions. His long term objective is clear, to secure a gold medal at the Paralympics, which he considers the pinnacle of achievement in his sport.
Haney credits his inspiration to Manu Bhaker’s success on the global stage, along with the encouragement of his elder sister, a national level canoeing medalist. With focused training and dedicated coaching sessions, he believes he is on the right path to achieving his goals.
With time on his side and momentum in his favour, Haney is steadily shaping himself into a strong contender for international honours.
