US President Donald Trump
Ever since US President Donald Trump took over the President’s chair, new crises have been coming on America. Many times these crisis has been so big that the whole world has had to face them as tariffs. Due to these decisions of Donald Trump, tourists from all over the world are no longer preferred to roam on the American soil. According to a recently revealed report, the US may get a shock of $ 64 billion from tourism due to the trade policies of the Trump administration. Due to the policies of US President Donald Trump, America’s tourism sector is moving towards a serious crisis, it has been said in a report.
Loss of $ 64 billion
According to a recent report by Tourism Economics, an associate of Oxford Economics, the US may suffer a loss of up to $ 64 billion this year due to a decline in international and domestic visits. In 2025, the number of foreign tourists is expected to decline by 5.1% as compared to 2024, while earlier it was estimated that it would increase by 8.8%. Due to this, the amount spent by foreign tourists is also expected to fall by 10.9%, which can cause a loss of $ 18 billion in 2025 alone.
Impact of Trump administration policies
According to Adam Sachs, president of Tourism Economics, the negative sentiment towards the US has increased further and the policies of the Trump administration are prominently responsible. Due to the new tariffs and strict immigration rules imposed on Canada, Mexico, China and the European Union, the US is no longer a favorable place for tourists.
The report also states that the US image in the world has also deteriorated due to the budget cuts, reduction in civil services, and controversial policy in international affairs like Ukraine and Gaza. In such an environment, many foreign tourists are avoiding going to America and many institutions are hesitant to organize programs in America.
Impact on international tourism
The World Tourism Forum Institute has also warned that global stress, stringent visa rules and the firm dollar’s strength can affect the US tourism possibilities for a long period. In a survey conducted by YouGov in December, 35% of people from 16 countries of Europe and Asia said that they were less interested in going to America under Trump, while only 22% of people expressed interest.
Some tourists were not affected
However, not everyone has been affected by Trump’s policies. In the survey conducted by AFP at Times Square, tourists from France, Uzbekistan and Argentina said that Trump’s policies did not affect their travel decisions. Argentina’s Marianela Lopez and Elene Hajikovakis said that they were initially a little scared but later decided to come to America on European passport.
A French tourist named Laurent Lagardere said, Americans have chosen this President. This is democracy. If they are not happy, they will change after 4 years.
Tourists are now turning to other countries
However, many tourists are now considering traveling elsewhere instead of America. There has been a decrease in the number of Canadian tourists coming to America for a long time. According to Statistics Canada, the number of Canadian passengers returning to the US in February declined by 23%, and this is a decline of second consecutive month.
NYC Tourism President Julie Kokar said that the city of New York, where 1.29 crore foreign tourists came in 2024, are now facing a decline in Canadian tourists to cancel tourists. Apart from this, tourists from Western Europe like Britain and Germany are also now looking for other options. The two countries have warned their citizens of the threat of possible arrests when they go to America.
