Cricket players often make such mistakes for which they have to suffer the consequences, something similar happened with former New Zealand cricketer Doug Bracewell who took cocaine while playing county cricket in England and after that he was banned for two years. According to the English media, Doug Bracewell’s blood samples were taken during the match between Essex and Somerset during the 2025 County Championship. When his sample was tested in a London lab, he was found guilty of taking cocaine.

Doug Bracewell also admitted his mistake. He said that he had consumed cocaine on the evening of 24 September 2025 and the next day on 25 September he had also taken cocaine. The charge, made under Articles 2.1 and 2.2 of the ECB’s anti-doping rules, covered both the presence and use of a prohibited substance. The fast bowler admitted to the use of a banned substance, after which the proceedings against him were stopped and he was banned till 23 November 2027.

Doug Bracewell has performed well for New Zealand. He took 74 wickets in 28 test matches. He took 26 wickets in 21 ODI matches and in T20 he took 20 wickets in 20 matches. Bracewell took 422 wickets in 137 matches in first class cricket. He has 112 wickets in List A and 103 wickets in T20.
