A mythological story is also prevalent about the temple of Maa Dhari. Local people say that once the temple of Mata was washed away in a flood. The idol of Mata was also washed away along with the temple. The idol of Mata washed away and stopped near a rock near Dharo village. It is said that a divine voice came out from that idol, which instructed the villagers to install the idol at that place. After this, the villagers followed the orders of the mother and built a temple of the mother there.
When the temple was demolished in 2013, disaster struck:
Another story is popular about the mother. It is believed that in the year 2013, this temple of Mata was demolished and the idol of Mata was removed from its original place. People believe that due to this there was a terrible flood in Uttarakhand that year. Thousands of people were killed in that flood. It is believed that the statue of Dhara Devi was removed on the evening of June 16, 2013 and the disaster struck the state just hours later. Later, the temple was constructed again at the same place.
