Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz pulls out of French Open due to wrist injury

New Delhi: Carlos Alcaraz has been forced to pull out of the French Open due to a wrist injury, which he suffered in his first-round match at the Barcelona Open last week. The Spaniard has won the Roland Garros for the last two years, and was favourite to lift the title for the third time in Paris.

After suffering a defeat against Jannik Sinner in the Monte Carlo Masters final, Alcaraz decided to play in Barcelona just two days later, but injured his wrist in the first-round match.

“After the results of the tests carried out today, we have decided that the most prudent thing to do is to be cautious and not participate in Rome or Roland Garros as we wait to evaluate the progress so we can decide when to return to the court. This is a difficult time for me, but I am sure we will come out of it stronger,” said Alcaraz in a statement on social media.
