Who is Jia Jacob, actress arrested in Mumbai’s NESCO drug case?

New Delhi: On April 11, a concert was held at the NESCO Exhibition Centre in Goregaon, where two MBA students allegedly died due to a drug overdose. Following the case, a drug trafficking network came into light. Now, the case has taken a new turn and actress Jia Jacob has been arrested in connection with it. The case has also revealed some strong connections to the film industry.

Three students complained of breathlessness and were rushed to nearby hospitals after consuming multiple pills of MDMA. A 24-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man died during the treatment, and a 25-year-old woman recovered.

Who is Jia Jacob?

The 33-year-old actress Jia Jacob is a supporting actress and model in the film industry. Reportedly, she has featured in the music video for the song ‘Wakayi-Wakayi’ (2019) by Captain Pramod and Nikhil Kamath. She primarily works as a supporting actress and takes up modelling projects in the Hindi film industry.

What’s the case all about?

After two MBA students from the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies died after consuming ecstasy pills and alcohol during the concert in Mumbai, investigators tracked the money trail leading directly to Jacob’s bank account. The found transactions worth lakhs of rupees that the police believe were routed from other accused drug supplier Ayush Sahitya.

According to police sources, the actress was in a long-term live-in relationship with the suspected main supplier, identified as ‘Mark’, who is currently absconding. Police also suspects that Jiya may have been involved in supplying narcotics substances.

Meanwhile, she is currently being interrogated, and the investigating agencies hope to get big revelations in the case. The police is also probing the case in depth and continue to search for other individuals linked to the drug racket. So far, more than 10 people, including two students and the event organiser, have been arrested in connection with the case.
