The wait is over as the actress has reportedly been finalised for , According to reports, Dhurandhar star Sara Arjun has officially been locked in to play the evergreen diva on-screen.
It has to be noted that the film is going to be a major Hindi project after the success of the Dhurandhar franchise. Madhubala’s biopic will be produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and directed by Jasmeet K Reen. The film will not be a theatrical release, as the makers have decided to release it on OTT. Moreover, the production of the same will begin in July 2026.
Sara Arjun To Play Madhubala
According to a Variety India report, Sara Arjun has signed the Madhubala biopic. The biographical drama will be a straight-to-streaming film. Since Sanjay Leela Bhansali will be bankrolling the film, he will be keeping his eye on every detail while making the biopic on a yesteryear actress who died in 1969 at the age of 36.
Coming back to Madhubala’s biopic, Jasmeet K Reen is set to direct the film. She had earlier helmed Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathew’s Netflix film, Darlings. She has been working on the Madhubala biopic for the past couple of years, but it was put on hold due to budget concerns.
Ever since Sanjay Leela Bhansali came on board as a producer, the film has gained momentum. Now, all are waiting for Sara Arjun’s official confirmation on her casting in the Madhubala biopic.
Coming back to Sara Arjun, the newcomer will undergo an extensive physical and stylistic transformation to get into the skin of the character. Madhubala was an iconic beauty in the 1950s and 1960s.
Unlike her successful film career, the actress’ personal life was filled with a lot of pain and heartbreaks. The makers are still searching for two male leads to play Dilip Kumar and Kishore Kumar.
Earlier, the makers were keen on roping Kiara Advani for Madhubala’s role. However, things didn’t get materialised. Eventually, Sara Arjun came on board for the project. The makers are yet to finalise the title of the film.
For the unversed, Madhubala was in turbulent relationships with Dilip Kumar and her husband, Kishore Kumar. She died of haemoptysis caused by a ventricular septal defect at the age of 36.
