Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, 15, scripts more history: Youngest and fastest to score 500 runs in IPL

New Delhi: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scripted more IPL history on Wednesday by breaking two major records in Match 32 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Rajasthan Royals at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. Already a household name at the age of just 15, Sooryavanshi broke two major records despite failing to get past the double digits.

Sooryvanshi suffered a rare failure in IPL 2026, dismissed for just 8 by Mohsin Khan in the fourth over of the match. Going for the big shot, Sooryavanshi only managed to get a leading edge, which carried well over the 30-yard circle. However, Digvesh Rathi ran back at least 20 meters to take a stunning catch under immense pressure.

Sooryavanshi enters IPL record books

Though Sooryavanshi failed to get a big score vs LSG, he still managed to break two major records. At 15 years 26 days, he became the youngest-ever to score 500 runs in IPL. In fact, he became the first-ever 15-year-old to score 500 runs. Sooryavanshi surpassed Prithivi Shaw to achieve the feat.

Shaw was 19 years and 195 days when he completed 500 IPL runs. Sanju Samson (19 years, 195 days) and Rishabh Pant (19 years, 220 days) are the other batters on the list.

The Bihar batter also became the quickest in terms of balls to reach 500 IPL runs, reaching the milestone in 227 balls. Sooryavanshi surpassed Australian batter Glenn Maxwell, who achieved the feat in 260 balls. Punjab Kings batter Priyansh Arya is third on the list.

Glenn Maxwell 500 260
Priyansh Arya 500 278

Shami’s double blow rocks RR in powerplay

Despite Sooryavanshi’s record, RR got off to a poor start after being put into bat. After conceding 20 runs in the first two overs, LSG bounced back brilliantly thanks to Mohammed Shami’s two-wicket over. The seasoned pacer first dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal, who got out for 22 after hitting a hat-trick of fours to start the third over. Shami then got rid of in-form Dhruv Jurel for a golden duck with a peach of a delivery. Pant took both the catches.

Sitting ninth in the points table with two wins out of six, LSG are in desperate need to win the contest against third-placed Rajasthan Royals (RR) to register their third win of IPL 2026 and first at home.
