New Delhi: Tesla Model Y line-up has just been expanded with the coming of the Model Y L, priced at Rs 61.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The new trim comes with a longer wheelbase and a three-row seating setup, making it the first Tesla in India to offer a more family-focused layout.
The Model Y L is more or less the stretched version of the standard Model Y, which is currently sold in India in two trims with prices falling between Rs 59.89 lakh and Rs 67.89 lakh. The new L trim sits within this range, while giving it more practicality and space.
A big highlight is the claimed range of 681 km, making it one of the longest-range electric SUVs on sale in the country at present. This improvement comes with a revised battery setup and efficiency tweaks, targeted at bettering long-distance usability, which is a crucial element for Indian buyers.

In terms of looks, the Model Y L retains Tesla’s minimalist design language, but comes with a longer profile and extended rear section to accommodate the additional row of seats. Inside, the cabin continues with Tesla’s design philosophy, dominated by a large central touchscreen and a clean, button-light interface. It also offers increased flexibility with three-row seating.
Much like the standard model, the Model Y L is expected to come as a fully imported unit, which explains its premium pricing in the Indian market. High import duties continue to play a major role in positioning Tesla products in the luxury EV space. With this launch, Tesla is clearly catering more towards Indian preferences with its global portfolio, where larger, more practical SUVs tend to have a stronger demand.
The Model Y L broadens Tesla’s lineup but also places it in a segment of three-row electric SUVs, which is uncharted. Tesla’s performance in India hasn’t been opf much of note, but with the three-row SUV, the brand might be getting a grip of the Indian buyers.
