Acting on a tip-off, the police raided the Madhu Vihar area in east Delhi and busted two illegal manufacturing units where fake ENO powder and Nescafé coffee were being produced and supplied to the market.
Fake ENO, Nescafe coffee worth Rs 20 lakh seized
During this operation, police seized goods worth approximately Rs 20 lakh. According to the police, these products were being distributed to various parts of the country through both wholesale and retail markets.
From the premises, the police team recovered three packaging machines, approximately 1,00,000 finished fake ENO sachets, around 50,000 fake coffee sachets, 500 kilograms of coffee powder, drums filled with acid, packaging rolls, stickers, cartons, and other related materials.
ENO is commonly used to treat gas, acidity, and indigestion and the consumption of such fake products could pose a serious threat to people’s lives.
4 arrested
The police have arrested four individuals: Uttam Das, Papai Das (alias Pankaj), Nitin Bhardwaj, and Sanjay Bansal in connection with the racket.
Interrogation revealed that the accused had been running the racket for the past two months and had turned two rented flats into manufacturing units.
Nitin Bhardwaj was initially absconding, but the police tracked him down through technical surveillance and apprehended him in Dehradun. Subsequently, Sanjay Bansal was also arrested near Kashmiri Gate.
