Days before second marriage, Ayurvedic doctor found murdered at home in Karnataka town

New Delhi: A 51-year-old Ayurvedic doctor was found murdered at his residence in Sirsi town of Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district. The doctor was to get married for a second time on Monday.

Police suspect that the doctor, identified as Ramesh Kalagutkar, was killed on Saturday night. The incident came to light on Sunday evening.

According to preliminary information, unidentified persons allegedly entered his house in the New KHB Colony area and killed him before fleeing the spot.

How the crime came to fore

Kalagutkar had lost his wife around eight months ago to a heart attack and was preparing to remarry. He was scheduled to wed a 45-year-old woman at the Venkataramana temple in Manjuguni village in Sirsi taluk, with arrangements already underway.

Relatives who visited his house on Sunday evening found the doors locked. After repeated calls went unanswered, they grew suspicious and forced entry into the house, where they found his body lying in a pool of blood with head injuries.

Police suspect the assailants escaped without raising suspicion in the neighbourhood. The case has been registered at the Sirsi Market police station, and a team led by Superintendent of Police Deepak and CPI Shashikant Verma visited the crime spot.

Doctor brought gold from bank days earlier

Officials said it is yet to be ascertained whether any valuables were stolen, and further investigation is underway. The doctor had recently brought back jewellery belonging to his first wife from a bank.

Kalagutkar is survived by two sons. While one is pursuing engineering in Bengaluru the second son is working as a doctor in West Bengal. He was living alone at his Sirsi residence.
