Chennai: The death toll in a massive explosion at a firecracker manufacturing factory in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu has reached 24. Another person undergoing treatment at Virudhunagar Medical College died. Four of the dead have still not been identified. At present, the process of postmortem of the dead bodies is going on.

A team of 14 doctors from Madurai and Tirunelveli medical colleges has been formed for the postmortem. Out of the total 24 dead, 20 have been identified. Postmortem of these dead bodies is being done in the first phase. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has directed to complete the postmortem as soon as possible and hand over the bodies to the family members. Police have started investigation against the factory owner responsible for the blast. An expert team formed by the government will also visit the incident site and submit its report to the government.

This accident happened in a firecracker manufacturing unit near Virudhunagar. The explosion was so powerful that four rooms of the factory were completely destroyed. According to local media, many people died on the spot. This factory belongs to a company named ‘Vanja Fire Works’. Reports say that the tremors of the blast were felt several kilometers away. According to the information, about 50 people were present in the factory when the blast occurred.
