Ajmer: Two persons were killed and at least 31 others were injured after the passenger bus they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge in Rajasthan‘s Ajmer district on Sunday. The accident took place near Pushkar, the police said.
Sharing further details, the police said that the accident took place when the bus carrying 33 passengers lost control in the Pushkar ghati area and fell into a gorge. The vehicle got stuck in trees and bushes. The passengers were on their way from Ajmer to Pushkar. They were on their way to attend a social function.
Locals rushed in for help
Speaking to news agency PTI, Circle Officer (Rural) Ramchandra Chaudhary said that the accident took place near Sanjhisar when the bus driver lost control and it fell into the gorge. Soon after the accident, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the injured. They made makeshift ropes from clothes and pulled the injured out of the gorge.
All the injured were subsequently admitted to a government hospital in Pushkar. They were later referred to Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Hospital in Ajmer. As per Hospital superintendent Dr Arvind Khare, as many as 30 patients are undergoing treatment at the moment, while one of the passengers has been discharged. The two deceased have been identified as Pooja (28) and Vimla Devi (50).
Traffic movement was affected after the accident
Rescue teams, which were part of the operation, included personnel from SDRF, Civil Defence, and local police. After the incident, the traffic movement in the Pushkar Ghati area was affected for some time, which resulted in a long jam.
In November last year, a major road accident took place in Jaipur’s Harmada area, in which around ten people lost their lives. The incident took place when a dumper truck rammed into a car, leading to a collision and overturning of three other vehicles.
