Mirra Andreeva said she is planning to take revenge when coach Conchita Martinez plays in Wimbledon’s Invitational Doubles event later this week. Andreeva has previously discussed the ruthless training schedule Martinez puts her through, and the youngster has her eye on an opportunity to get her own back.
Teenage superstar Andreeva and 1994 Wimbledon winner Martinez have formed a formidable partnership since they started working together in April last year. The 18-year-old is up to fourth in the WTA’s live rankings, and she dispatched 10th seed Emma Navarro in straight sets on Monday.
During a colourful on-court interview, a bubbly Andreeva admitted she was flustered at seeing Roger Federer and his wife watching on from the Royal Box. And there were more chuckles around the arena when she was asked about her coach’s upcoming doubles assignment.
Andreeva admitted she plans to embarrass Martinez by making a scene on the side of the court, saying: “I can get my revenge, finally. I think she starts tomorrow.
“I’m already thinking about a poster that I will make and I hope that some people will help me do this. I will come to the court with a huge poster, support and coach [her] because I think that’s my time to get back at her.”
