Story of Jitiya Vrat
At some time, there was a prince of a Gandharvas named Jimutavahana. One day when he was walking in the forest, he saw the old woman crying. On asking the reason, the woman said that ‘I am a woman of Nagat. According to the tradition in our caste, a sacrifice is given to Garuda every day. Today is my son’s turn. ‘
Hearing the woman, Jemutavahana said, ‘Today I will become a diet of Garudadeva instead of your son. Saying this, Jimutavahana himself stood up to become a diet of Garudadeva. When Garudadev came there and saw the young man from another dynasty, asked the reason for this. Jemutavahana told him the whole thing truth.
Garudadeva was very happy to see the bravery of Jimutavahana and he promised not to sacrifice Nagavansh. In this way Jimutavahana saved the Nag caste from ending. Since then, Jemutavahana is worshiped every year for the safety of children.
