Rajasthan: Pakistan-origin couple’s body found under mysterious circumstances in Jaisalmer, probe begins

Jaisalmer: An elderly couple from Pakistan was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan on Sunday. The bodies were found near Mohangarh police station, the police said. The incident has led to concerns among locals in the area.

Sharing details, the police said that the initial investigation suggested that the couple, Lakharam Bhil (80) and his wife Reshma Bhil (75), might have been strangled when they were sleeping. While a case has been filed in the incident, the police are trying to find out the exact cause of the incident and identify those behind it. There has been no arrest in the case so far.

The incident sparks concerns in the region

As per the police, more information will be made available once the post-mortem reports are out. The couple was reportedly part of the Pakistani community who were living in Jaisalmer. The incident has led to a major concern in border areas, with several agencies involved in probing the matter.

According to ‘The Times of India’, the couple did not have any children and used to live alone. The couple, which belonged to the Bhil community, had come to India around 20 years back from Rahim Yar Khan district in Pakistan. They were recently granted Indian citizenship.

The bodies were found by a relative

According to the police, Lakharam’s nephew Chandaram had come to visit them on Saturday. After reaching the house, he was shocked to see the bodies, and he immediately informed the villagers.

He found that Lakharam’s body was lying in the courtyard, while Reshma’s body was found inside a room. The probe found that Reshma’s silver anklets were missing. It also found some footprints around the house. A forensic team was also called to probe the matter.
