Hera Pheri 3 in limbo, Akshay Kumar admits legal and production hurdles remain

New Delhi: Fans hoping for Hera Pheri 3 may need to wait longer as Akshay Kumar has offered a clear update on the long-awaited sequel. In a conversation with Subhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel, the actor addressed ongoing speculation around the film’s progress, especially after recent legal disputes and cast-related controversies. The project, which was expected to reunite Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty, has been surrounded by uncertainty for some time. Despite high expectations and strong nostalgia linked to the franchise, Akshay confirmed that the film is not moving forward at present due to unresolved issues.

Akshay Kumar on Hera Pheri 3 delay and legal issues

Speaking candidly, Akshay Kumar said, “Hera Pheri 3 abhi filhaal toh nahi ban rahi.” He added that the news itself came as a shock to him.

“Mujhe khud jhatka laga tha. Koi baat nahi, Welcome bana li. Thoda kuch mantra padna padega ki sab theek ho jaaye. Abhi ek saal toh nahi hain. Uske bohot saare issues hain, aisa nahi hain ki hum teeno saath nahi hain. Welcome to the Jungle mein hum teeno saath hain. Kuch kuch cheezein hoti hain jo main camera pe nahi bol sakta. Bohot saari cheezein, agreements hain, which takes the project backwards,” he explained.

The actor further clarified that the delay is not due to differences among the lead cast. “Apne aap ayega, jab waqt aayega tab ban jaayega. Bas yahi hain ki budhapa na ho jaaye tab tak!” he said with a light remark on the long wait.

Hera Pheri, directed by Priyadarshan and released in 2000, became a cult favourite for its iconic trio – Baburao Ganpatrao Apte (Paresh Rawal), Raju (Akshay Kumar) and Shyam (Suniel Shetty). Its sequel Phir Hera Pheri released in 2006, directed by Neeraj Vora, further cemented its legacy in Indian comedy cinema.

For now, Hera Pheri 3 remains a film trapped between nostalgia, rights issues and timing, with fans left waiting for Baburao, Raju and Shyam to return once again.
