Afghanistan Cricketer Shapoor Zadran: Serious concern is once again being expressed about the health of former Afghanistan cricket team fast bowler Shapoor Zadran. He has been quite ill for some time. According to reports, he is currently admitted in the ICU of a hospital and is fighting for his life. Shapoor Zadran has been among the handful of Afghanistan cricket players who made their mark at the international level despite war, instability and lack of resources in the country. He made his international debut in 2009 and played about 80 matches for Afghanistan. His fast bowling and enthusiasm played an important role in many memorable victories.
Shapoor Zadran’s health deteriorated again
According to recent reports, Shapoor Zadran is battling an infection after spine surgery. His condition is said to be very critical. Earlier in January 2026 also, there was news of his health deteriorating. At that time, his brother Ghamai Zadran had posted on social media on January 12 and informed that Shapoor’s condition is worrying and he is going through serious health problems. Then the number of white blood cells of Shapoor had reduced significantly, due to which his immunity had become weak. However, the exact cause of his illness or complete details of his treatment have not been made public yet.

A round of prayers begins in the cricket world
Many personalities from the cricket world including former Pakistani captain Shahid Afridi have expressed concern about Shapoor’s health. Afridi spoke to his brother on phone and wished him a speedy recovery. Meanwhile, former wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal wrote on social media, ‘Jadran Bhai is like my friend. I wish him a speedy recovery. Amen.’
Let us tell you, Shapoor Zadran played 44 ODI and 36 T20 matches during his international career. During this period, he took 43 wickets in ODI and 37 wickets in T20. He was also a part of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup. Whereas, Shapoor retired from international cricket in 2025, his career lasted for more than 10 years.
