‘Let us together create history’: PM Narendra Modi’s appeal to Opposition ahead of voting on key Bills

New Delhi: The Parliament has been debating the Women’s Reservation Bill since Thursday. The debate in fact continued late into the night and ended at 1 am. Now, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken to social media platform, ‘X’ to appeal to the Opposition parties to vote in support of the Bill. He urged the political parties and their representatives in the Parliament to take decisions after giving proper thought to the matter.

The Parliament is set to vote on 3 key Bills which will allow for women’s reservation and also establish a delimitation commission at 4 pm on Friday.

‘Listen to your conscience’: PM Narendra Modi appeals to Opposition

In a post on social media platform, ‘X’, PM Narendra Modi appealed to the Opposition parties to support the government to bring about women’s reservation. He said that they had a great opportunity to serve the women of the country and empower them. He said that the Opposition should not deprive the country’s women of new opportunities by not supporting the Women’s Reservation Bill.

His post on ‘X’, read, “I would say to all the Members of Parliament. Keeping in mind the memory of your mother, sister, daughter, wife in your home, listen to your conscience. This is a great opportunity to serve the women power of the country, to honor them. Do not deprive them of new opportunities.”

He said that the amendment will be passed by consensus and the women power of the country will become even more empowered. He said that through this Bill, the democracy of the country would become even more empowered.

Addressing the Opposition leaders directly, he said, “Come… let us together create history today. Give the women of India… the country’s half population their rightful due.”

Discussion underway in Parliament, misconceptions dispelled: PM Modi

PM Narendra Modi said that currently the Parliament was discussing the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. He said that his government/ministers had provided logical responses to the questions raised by the MPs and tried to dispel misconceptions that were spread regarding the Bill. He said that every apprehension has been addressed.

According to PM Modi, now was the right time that women’s reservation should happen. He said, “For four decades, a great deal of politics has been played on the issue of women’s reservation in the country. Now is the time that half the country’s population must certainly receive its rights.”

He said that it was not justified that even after so many decades of independence, the Indian women have such minimal representation in the decision making process. He appealed to all political parties to act with due consideration and complete sensitivity and vote for passing the Bill.
