Watch: Baghpat DM Asmita Lal’s pet langur ‘Matru’ gatecrashes farmers meeting, she invites him to sit on chair

New Delhi: A video from Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat is going viral on social media. In the video, Baghpat DM Asmita Lal can be seen with her pet langur, ‘Matru’. The officer was in the middle of a meeting when the animal entered the room and made his way directly towards Lal.

DM Asmita Lal invites pet ‘langur’ to sit on her chair

Baghpat DM, Asmita Lal was in the middle of a meeting with farmers at Vikas Bhavan, when her pet langur entered the room. He can be seen jumping over people and climbing on the table. He then walks slowly towards Lal.

DM Lal then invites the animal to sit on her chair. It happily makes its way to her chair and perches itself on it, as if he is actually the DM of Baghpat. The video which is now going viral, has brought a smile on people’s faces.

DM Asmita Lal, along with Superintendent of Police, Suraj Rai were present at the Kisan Samadhan Diwas meeting at Vikas Bhavan, when suddenly the langur made his way to the DM’s chair. This is not the first time that this langur has been seen in the premises of the collector’s office. He is a known face among the locals.

Earlier a video of DM Asmita Lal with the animal had gone viral. In the previous video, the langur could be seen hanging on to the dress of the DM. This was during a ‘dharna’ of the farmers. He also ‘joined’ the farmers in their protest, and became the talk of the town, even at that time.

Who is IAS officer Asmita Lal

Asmita Lal, who is currently the DM of Baghpat is an IAS officer of the 2015 batch. She is primarily from Delhi and was born on December 17,1989. After completing her graduation, she started preparing for the civil services. She cracked the examination and joined as an IAS officer on September 7,2015.

Lal has been the DM of Baghpat since January 18,2025. She is frequently in the spotlight for her sensitivity and working style. Her love for animals is aptly represented in the videos with ‘Matru’, her pet langur, including the latest where the animal gate crashed her meeting.
