Hyderabad: A case has been registered against a woman in Boduppal, which falls under the limits of Mediapally Police Station in Hyderabad, on charges of giving an acid-laced drink to her four-year-old nephew.
The child has been admitted to a hospital and is currently out of danger. The accused identified as Manjula, is the victim’s aunt.
Child’s throat severely burnt by acid:
The incident came to light when the child fell ill and was admitted to the hospital for treatment. During an endoscopy, doctors discovered that the inner lining of the child’s throat had been severely burnt by acid.
Subsequently, the victim’s mother filed a complaint, alleging that the child was tricked into consuming the acid after being lured with a chocolate.
Accused may have acted out of jealousy:
Preliminary inquiry suggests that Manjula may have committed this act out of jealousy, as it is alleged that the four-year-old boy was receiving more attention and affection from the grandparents and other family members compared to her own children.
According to the police, the accused woman is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to locate her.
